Description: Brown to grey thallus; smooth when wet; it forms small patches generally less than 15mm diameter. When dry it has a very shrivelled appearance. The thallus consists of many coral-like ascending structures forming dense mats. Apothecia are very rare; discs are concave to flat. Isidia are common.
Chemical Tests: All negative.
Nature Notes: Found associated with old woodlands, particularly on trees with cracked rough basic bark. Also found on calcareous rocks and mortar-rich walls.

Leptogium schraderi: a similar species also with few apothecia.
