The upper surface colours may be described as grey to blue-grey to brown with a smooth texture. The underside is pale brown with simple non-branched rhizines. Lobes are closely pressed to the substrate, except at the edges where the margins are raised and wavy or undulating; frequently it is pruinose with marginal soralia. Apothecia are rare and very small reaching a maximum size of 2 mm. Ascospores are 3 to 5 septate and 70 µm by 5 µm.
Chemical Tests: All negative. No lichen substances.
Nature Notes: Found on mossy rocks and tree trunks. This is the only Peltigera with marginal soralia and can be confused with Nephroma parile.
