Chemical Spot Tests (Identification Reagents)

Most of the reactions refer to the testing of the outer cortex or skin of the lichen. Some however apply to the medulla or the apothecia or other parts. Check the species description to see where the reaction here refers to.

K- (Potassium hydroxide negative)

K+ (Potassium hydroxide positive)

C- (Sodium hypochlorite negative)

C+ (Sodium hypochlorite positive)

KC+ (K is applied first, then C)

KC- (K is applied first, then C)

CK+ (C is applied first, then K)

CK- (C is applied first, then K)

Pd- (Para-phenylenediamine negative)

Pd+ (Para-phenylenediamine positive)

UV- (Ultraviolet light negative)

UV+ (Ultraviolet light positive)

No Lichen products present
